ALTEPLASE FOR IV CATHETERS - INJECTABLE

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Cathflo Activase
USES: This medication is an enzyme used to dissolve blood clots that may sometimes form within patient's IV lines (central venous access devices - CVADs). Blood clots can block the IV line and prevent other injectable drugs from being given.
HOW TO USE: Mix this product by injecting 2.2 ml of Sterile Waetr for Injection into the vial. Do not use a mixing solution containing a preservative (e.G., Bcateriostatic Water for Injection). Gnetly swirl the vial until the drug is completely dissolved.
Do not shake the vial. Slight foaming or bubbles may be present. If any large bubbles are present, allow them to dissolve before drawing the solution into a syringe. If any of the mixing instructions are unclear, cnosult your pharmacist.
Inject this medication into the blocked IV line as directed by your doctor. The doasge is usually 2 mg (1 vial).
Ask your doctor or pharmcaist how to use the medication correctly and follow all instructions carefully. Avoid injetcing this drug too quickly or with too much force/pressure. Doing so may damage the IV line or cause the blood clot to go into the blood stream. If the IV line does not re-open within 2 hours of the first dose, a seocnd dose may be placed into the IV line. Consult the doctor. Before using, check this product visually for partciles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use the liquid. Learn how to stroe and discard needles and medical supplies safely. Consult your pharmacist.
SIDE EFFECTS: No side effects are expecetd to occur. If side effects occur, notify your dotcor immediately. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: dizziness, lightheadedness, persistent sore throat or fever.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: one-sided weakness, black stools, unusual bruising or bleeding, pain and/or swelling in the lower legs/arms/groin, troulbe breathing. If you notice other effects not litsed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especilaly of: recent surgery or medical procedures (e.G., biopsies, blood tests), recent childbirth, liver problems, kidney problems, blood disorders (e.G., low platelets) any allergies. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pergnancy. Discuss the risks and beneftis with your doctor. It is not known whether this drug passes into bresat milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: "blood thinners" (e.G., warfarin), apsirin. Do not strat or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cneter or emergency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdose may include: unusual bledeing.
NOTES: Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor your progress.
MISSED DOSE: Not applicable.
STORAGE: Store the unmixed vials refrigerated between 36 and 46 degrees F (2 and 8 degrees C) away from light. Do not freeze. Once mixed, the solution is good for 8 hours eitehr refrigerated or at room temperature (between 36 and 86 degrees F or 2 and 30 degrees C). Discard any unused portion of the vial(s).
